Henry Howard Jr. is a resident artist based in Dallas, Texas. He is the son of the late artist Henry Howard Sr. and Anna E. Howard. Inspired by his father's life and work, Henry developed a passion for art at the age of 14. He received his early training at Crozier Tech High School and continued his studies at El Centro College and Southern Methodist University, where he majored in Studio Arts.
Henry has been actively involved in the Dallas art scene for more than 40 years, beginning with his selection by Dallas City Arts Programs to educate, and train high school students in the design and execution of city-wide murals and teaching classes to young children at the Community Center for the Arts.
Henry's artwork has been exhibited at various prestigious institutions in Dallas, including Dallas City Hall, the South Dallas Cultural Center, SMU, and galleries across the state. He also has a permanent installation at the Dallas MLK Library and is a featured artist at the Eye of the Beholder Gallery in San Antonio.
Henry's artistic influences are diverse, ranging from his father to renowned artists such as John Biggers, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Walter Wynn, Nathan Jones, Arthello Beck, Frank Frazier, and Jean Lacy. He also credits his art instructors, including Roger Winters, John Schrup, and the late Lawrence Scholder, for shaping his artistic development.
Henry primarily works with oil and graphite as his mediums, showcasing his care and authenticity in these areas. He is also trained in intaglio, adding another dimension to his artistic repertoire.
Henry's current inspiration is creating a collection of intimate graphite drawings that represent and celebrate his past and present culture and surroundings. In addition to his personal projects, Henry accepts limited commissioned pieces.
